Pokemon Sealed vs Singles Prices: Flat Is Not Strong

Published . Every population and price figure below re-renders from our own data on each rebuild, so they stay current. Pop data last pulled 2026-09-20.

Two tick bands sharing one zero rule, the 84 sealed rows piled tight on the rule in amber above an Astral Radiance Build and Battle Stadium box, the 730 singles smeared far to the falling side in slate above a Mega Dragonite ex 152 card

"A sealed box carries a printed contents list and a recommended price before anybody opens one, so a preorder listing on it has something real to anchor against". "Of those 654 moves, 417 fell against 235 that rose". Card Talk ran the first of those on September 21 and the second on September 7, and we re-pulled the whole board on September 29. Sealed rows are more than twice as likely to be up as singles this week, and that reading is close to empty, because 44.0% of the sealed rows moved less than 1%.

Six calls, and the leg that broke

Call 1 reaches its review date on September 30, and this column never grades a call before its horizon. The verdict lands next week, and the honest interim word is that one of its three legs broke inside the final nine days. The leg that broke is the booster bundle.

The piece that traced new supply into one Journey Together product left the booster box at $249.74 on August 28, and it marks $207.95 today, well under that August level. The elite trainer box reads $136.50 against a $137.61 start on the same date, a fall of 0.8%. Two of the three legs therefore track the call.

The bundle marked $46.04 on September 21 and reads $42.84 today, against the $46.00 August base the call asked it to hold. That is a fall of 6.9% in eight days, on the leg with the least room under it.

Call 2 asked the 30th Celebration Ultra Premium Collection [Day] to mark below $599.04 on October 15, and it reads $566.37 today. The product marked $562.65 on September 21, so it has ticked up over the week while still staying $32.67 under the line the call has to close below. It still carries a presale flag and a November 6 ship date.

Call 3 asks for fewer than 30% of the Mega Evolution era rows to be up on the week. Our first count of how far that era trailed the rest of the board put it at 18.5% on September 7. The era reads 17.2% today, which is 40 rows up out of 232. The rest of the board ran 19.4% up over the same week.

That gap between the era and the rest stood at 23.7 points on September 7 and reads 2.2 points today. The era has recovered less than the board around it has weakened since then.

Call 4 asks the ten 30th Celebration mini tins to average below $52.00 on October 26, and all ten carry a mark today. Their unweighted mean is $50.84 against $52.84 on September 21, so the call sits under its own line. Four weeks remain, and the tins ship on October 2.

Call 5 belongs to another column and is not due until November 25. Its trailing gem rate could not be re-pulled this week, because the census file it reads held 566 rows drawn from one set rather than the full census. We are recording that read as unavailable rather than taking a figure off a holed file.

Call 6 asks the 30th Celebration Booster Bundle to mark below $100.00 on October 19, and it reads $109.06 today. It marked $123.53 eight days ago, a fall of 11.7%. The product ships on October 2, so real sales run through it first.

Pokemon sealed vs singles prices, counted two ways

Our screen passed 814 rows on September 29, split 84 sealed products against 730 singles. The sealed half returned 33 up rows, or 39.3%, and the singles half 120, or 16.4%. A week earlier the same screen read 30.8% for sealed and 18.5% for singles, so sealed gained 8.5 points.

On a direction count alone, sealed looks like the strong half of this market. It's the reading our own previous four columns all leaned on, and it is the one this week tests.

Why 44% of the sealed board barely moved

A direction count treats a move of 0.1% and a move of 18.8% as one event. That works when two populations move at similar sizes, and on September 29 these two did not come close. The median sealed row moved 1.2% on the week, against 3.9% for the median single.

Across the sealed half, 37 rows of 84 moved less than 1% on the week and 52 of them moved less than 2%. Among the 730 singles the same two counts are 110 and 192. Sealed clusters on no change and singles do not.

The signed figures say it more plainly. Summed at market value, the sealed rows fell 0.90% over the week to September 29 and the singles fell 2.94%. Both halves lost ground, and one of them lost roughly three times as much.

That is what a 39.3% up share is describing here, and it reports a near coin toss around flat. The daily list of screened price moves this site keeps carries direction and size together for exactly this reason. Neither number means much without the other one beside it.

The likely mechanism is that sealed units trade in far smaller numbers than singles do, so a week can pass with a handful of sales on a box. The same week can carry hundreds of sales on one chase card. That is a cause rather than a count, so it's hedged rather than stated as a finding here.

The case against all of this is worth stating plainly. Standing still while the board around it falls 2.94% is a real relative result, and a holder of sealed product has had the better week of the two. What the count cannot support is the word strong.

Call 7, and the reading that breaks it

Every Market Read leaves one dated call behind it. Call 7, made on September 29 of 2026, is that the sealed half of our board records a median absolute weekly move below 2.00% on October 27.

That figure reads 1.20% today, the tightest of the 32 daily readings of that measure we hold since August 17. It has been at or above 2.00% on 14 of those 32, including four inside the last fortnight. The call bets that the tight reading holds rather than reverts.

A median absolute move of 2.00% or higher on October 27 makes the call wrong, and this column will print it wrong. If fewer than 60 sealed rows clear the screen that day, the call is recorded unverifiable instead.

The plain weakness in it is composition. Our sealed count fell from 117 rows to 84 over the week, and a shorter list moves more easily than a long one. The page describing what an aggregate mark on this site counts carries the limits on every figure above.

The sealed index this site keeps re-reads the same products on every rebuild of this page. None of the figures here is advice about what to buy or sell. A restock decision or an allocation decision never reaches a price feed at all, in either half of the board.

Nothing here is financial advice. Graded cards are speculative and illiquid, projections are labelled as projections, and this column grades its own past calls in public.
