Pokemon Preorder Prices After Release: 14 of 14 Fell

Published . Every population and price figure below re-renders from our own data on each rebuild, so they stay current. Pop data last pulled 2026-10-01.

Two dated price traces on a dark field, the ten 30th Celebration mini tins in amber stepping down hard at the October 2 ship rule beside a photograph of the Espeon mini tin, and the still unshipped Ultra-Premium Collection [Day] in slate running flat beside its own box render

"A presale mark on a single card is not describing a price". Card Talk ran that line on September 21 of 2026, and we re-pulled the whole 30th Celebration group on October 5. A preorder mark carries no information about price until the product can actually ship, and the fourteen items that began shipping on October 2 fell a median of 32.8% inside four days.

Call 1 reached its review date, and the verdict is partly

Call 1 read that the elite trainer box and the bundle keep holding while the booster box settles somewhere under its August level. The piece that traced new supply into three Journey Together products published it on August 28 of 2026, with a review date of September 30. That date has passed, so the call is graded here against the September 30 close.

The booster box opened at $249.74 and closed down at $201.94. That is a fall of 19.1%, against which the elite trainer box went from $137.61 to $135.55, a slip of 1.5% that still reads as holding. The bundle went from $46.00 to $43.29, a fall of 5.9%, and that third leg did not hold.

Two legs of three landed, so the verdict on Call 1 is partly rather than correct or wrong. Of the 25 Journey Together sealed configurations carrying a mark on both dates, the median move was a rise of 1.4%. The booster box fell furthest of the 25 and the bundle fell third furthest, so the call named the right product and the wrong neighbours.

The weaker part of this is something we wrote rather than something the market did. Call 1's falsifier asked for the booster box to sit at or above its August level while another leg fell, and the box finished 19.1% below. A falsifier joined by a second condition tests the conjunction instead of the claim, and from today this column writes single condition falsifiers.

Pokemon preorder prices after release, measured against a control

The 30th Celebration catalogue holds 221 products, and 14 of them came off presale with a ship date of October 2. Every one of the 14 fell between October 1 and October 5, by a median of 32.8% and an average of 32.0%. The shallowest fall was 20.8% on the booster bundle case and the deepest was 43.2% on the Zapdos mini tin.

Eighteen products in the same catalogue are still flagged presale, and 17 of those carried a mark on both days. Their median move over the identical four days was 0.0%, with 7 of the 17 up and 5 of them down. The other 5 did not move at all. The Ultra-Premium Collection [Day] went from $565.94 on October 1 to $565.59 today, a change of 0.06%.

That second group is what makes this a measurement rather than an anecdote. Both cohorts sit in one catalogue, over one set of dates, under one week of collector attention. The only thing that separates them is whether a seller could put the product in a box, so shipping is the variable that moved the price.

The four days that re-priced a mini tin

The ten mini tins averaged $50.50 on October 1, their last day as presale listings. They averaged $45.00 on the ship day itself, $37.85 on October 4 and $33.23 on October 5. That is 34.2% off the mean in four days, and nine of the ten carried their deepest reading of the week on the last of them.

The ten tin display followed the same path from $354.96 on October 1 down to $235.55 today, a fall of 33.6%. The booster bundle went from $90.57 to $70.63 across those same four days, a fall of 22.0%. The daily list of screened price moves this site keeps carries all three alongside the rest of the catalogue.

Our board screened 3,021 rows this week and passed 961 of them, of which 136 were up, and one caveat belongs on all three figures. Our price snapshots skipped September 25 through September 28 entirely. The weekly window behind those board figures therefore runs 11 days from September 24, rather than the usual 7.

Where the seven other calls stand

Call 2 asks the Ultra-Premium Collection [Day] to mark below $599.04 on October 15, and it reads $565.59 today. Call 3 asks for fewer than 30% of the Mega Evolution era rows to be up on the week, and 26 of 262 are up, or 9.9%. The rest of the board ran 110 up out of 699 rows over the same days.

Call 4 asks the ten mini tins to average below $52.00 on October 26, and they average $33.23 with all ten marked. Call 6 asks the 30th Celebration Booster Bundle to mark below $100.00 on October 19, and it reads $70.63. Both calls were made before October 2 and both were settled, in practice, by the thing this week measured.

Call 5 belongs to another column and is not due until November 25. Its census source failed last week and has since healed to 109,693 rows, last written on October 1. That card's trailing monthly gem rate reads 65% on 540 grades, against the 68% on 492 grades the call was made on.

Call 7 is the one running against us. It asks the sealed half of the board for a median absolute weekly move below 2.00% on October 27, and that figure reads 2.65% today on 118 rows. The column that first measured how tightly sealed rows cluster around no change set the line at the tightest reading we held, and it has not held.

Call 8 asks the 151 Booster Bundle to stay under $185.57 on November 30, and it marks $166.82 today. The sealed index this site keeps re-reads that product on every rebuild of this page. None of the figures here is advice about what anyone should buy or sell.

Call 9, and the average that would make it wrong

Every Market Read leaves one dated call behind it. Call 9, made on October 5 of 2026, is that the two 30th Celebration Battle Decks average below $45.00 when we re-pull on November 16. They average $58.03 today, so the call asks for a fall of 22.4%.

Both decks are still flagged presale with a ship date of October 30, which puts the re-pull 17 days after they become shippable. The 14 products that shipped on October 2 fell between 20.8% and 43.2% within four days, so 22.4% over a longer run sits inside what we just measured. The page describing what an aggregate mark on this site counts carries the limits on every figure above.

The case against the call is that these two have been rising hard while unshippable. Their average ran $36.00 on September 7 and $58.03 today, a rise of 61.2%, and the Umbreon deck carries most of it. An average of $45.00 or higher on November 16 makes the call wrong, and this column will print it wrong.

Nothing here is financial advice. Graded cards are speculative and illiquid, projections are labelled as projections, and this column grades its own past calls in public.
