"Why are tag teams blowing tf up?" took a hundred and fifty eight votes on August fifteenth, with Mewtwo & Mew GX right in it. We upvoted it too, from inside the same thread.
Mewtwo & Mew GX SM191 is the Tag Team GX card this week's attention does not support. The Tag Team promos that are genuinely scarce already price that way. This one is not scarce.
What the room repeated all fortnight
The top reply took a hundred and eighty nine votes and blamed the room itself. "Idk, maybe the dozens of posts here over the last 2 weeks might have something to do with it".
Dozens. Our own sweep counted thirty seven separate Tag Team threads in that sub over the fourteen days to August twenty fifth.
Another reply, at fifty four votes, named the machine behind it. "Influencers buy certain sets wholesale and make 100 videos on why it's going to blow up".
The case for the cards arrived underneath, on ten votes. "Tag Teams for the most part are low pop, out of print, and high demand".
"10k psa 10 and 20k total psa is high pop for you? Lol". Someone underneath had already opened the census.
The price tape on August twenty fifth
Umbreon & Darkrai GX SM241 sat around six thousand four hundred dollars in PSA 10. Espeon & Deoxys GX SM240 sat near four thousand eight hundred.
Mewtwo & Mew GX came in around three thousand five hundred. Cheaper. Also the third dearest Tag Team promo on the board.
Then the Tag Team GX PSA 10 population
Our board counts 9,749 PSA 10 copies of SM191 in August, from 19,495 sent in. Half. Roughly one in two of everything submitted comes back a ten.
Umbreon & Darkrai holds 1,146. Espeon & Deoxys holds 946. Mewtwo & Mew carries more PSA 10 copies than both of those combined, four times over.
That is the entire disagreement. The room says low pop and means the two alt arts that genuinely are.
Supply has not stopped either. Close to six hundred more grades landed on SM191 in the thirty days to August twenty fifth. No other Tag Team promo on the board added as many.
One seller said the tape itself is dirty this week. "Yesterday, one of these 'shill bidders' won my SM191 PSA 10 auction with a high bid of $3,050".
We keep the measured version on the card hype tracker, which ranks four hundred cards by submissions and price heat rather than by thread volume. The weights sit on the page explaining how we score card hype.
Naming the card the numbers do not support is the whole job of this Hype Watch column, and this is its first entry.
The strongest thing said against us
A shop owner in the replies put the case better than we can. "As a vendor can't keep these in stock they fly off the shelves at 'market price' means the market is undervalued for them".
